My 4 niche New Year's resolutions at my coworking space

Everyone's New Year's resolutions look the same: gym, diet, early mornings. This year, I'm focusing on where I spend most of my time - my coworking space in Cremorne. Here are my four niche resolutions for 2026.

1. Asking more questions (your knowledge is limitless)

I'm surrounded by super knowledgeable business people every single day. People who've built successful companies, navigated industries I barely understand, and have decades of experience I could learn from.

And yet, how often do I actually pick their brains? Not nearly enough.

This year, I'm committing to being more curious. Whether it's a casual coffee chat or a genuine "hey, can I ask you about..." moment, I want to tap into the collective knowledge that's walking past my office door. The worst that can happen is someone says they're busy. The best that can happen? I learn something that changes how I approach my own business or my day to day life. Literally the Diary of a CEO in real life that is an unlimited amount of pages.

2. Stop bookmarking Cremorne events and actually attend them

We're based in Cremorne, Melbourne's own little Silicon Valley. There are incredible companies within a five-minute walk of our building. Networking events, industry meetups, panels... they're all happening right in my backyard.

I keep bookmarking them. Saving them. Thinking oh that's cool and interesting, then I continue to swipe.  This year I want to attend one per quarter.

I know lots of people go to one a week, but I'll be honest with myself, one per quarter is achievable and perfectly beneficial for myself!

I'm already here. I just need to show up.

3. Invite clients in instead of defaulting to "let's just jump on a quick call"

I've fallen into a bad habit: whenever someone wants to meet, my first instinct is to suggest a quick call. It feels easier, less disruptive, like I'm not wasting anyone's time.

I have access to really professional meeting rooms. Beautiful spaces that lend credibility and clarity to my thinking. I should be making an effort to use these and have the confidence that my thoughts are worth making the trip to see me in person.

Face-to-face conversations build stronger relationships. People appreciate when you invest time and create a proper environment for discussion. It feels good to say "come to my office" instead of "here's my meeting link."

4. Master the manual coffee machine (and stop taking the button route)

This one's a bit lighter.

We have a manual coffee machine in our kitchen. The kind where you grind the beans, tamp them down, clamp everything in, and... if you do it right, pull an absolutely perfect shot. It's intimidating. It requires practice. And I've been avoiding it, opting for the automatic button instead and pretending my coffee is just as good.

It's not.

This year, I'm committing to learning how to use that machine properly. Maybe I'll ask one of the members who always seems to nail it. Maybe I'll just practice until I stop producing sad, watery espresso. Either way, I'm done settling for the easy option when the better one is right there.

There you have it, my four niche New Year's resolutions for 2026. Nothing about meal prep or morning routines. Just four specific, actionable ways I want to make the most of the space I'm in and the people I'm surrounded by.

What about you? What are your niche resolutions for the year ahead?
