Coworking: One size does not fit all

What to look for in a coworking space

If you are looking for a new office, the most important question to ask is: What type of environment will help my team thrive?

Here are two ends of the spectrum:

  • Community-driven spaces
If your team values connection, collaboration, and inspiration, look for spaces that host pitch nights, lunch & learns, and parties. These spaces often include open coworking, bean bags, and shared amenities to create energy.
Keep in mind: all of these extras are built into your membership fees, so you are paying for the lifestyle as much as the desk.

  • Focus-driven spaces
If your team does more private, internal work, look for offices that prioritise closed-door suites, neighbourly communities, and infrastructure that supports deep focus. The design of the space should feel more polished and professional, with privacy and productivity front of mind.

You cannot be everything to everyone.

In the Melbourne coworking industry, many spaces try to appeal to both ends of the spectrum. Freelancers, startups, creatives, and large corporates all get grouped together under one roof.

But here is the thing: you cannot be good at everything.

When a space tries to cater to every type of business, there are always trade-offs. Teams that need privacy and structure can end up distracted, while those looking for a vibrant community feel like the atmosphere is too subdued.

Trying to be both usually means nobody gets the experience they want.

Why we built collective_100 differently

At collective_100, we have chosen to specialise in being a focused-driven space rather than generalise. Our space is designed for SMEs and multinational enterprises who want an environment that enables their teams to be at their most productive.

We want our teams to feel focused in our space and able to fully zone into their work. This reflects what Cal Newport explores in Deep Work: Rules for Focused Success in a Distracted World. In an age of constant notifications and multitasking, the ability to focus deeply is becoming rare and extremely valuable.

We go after SME's and MNE's because we know we can support them in the way they need. If you are wanting pitch nights and to meet with other startups, we may not be the perfect fit for you, and that is okay.

  • We focus on tailored solutions that scale with your established business.
  • We offer enterprise-grade infrastructure: dedicated meeting rooms, private high-speed internet, and seamless tech.
  • Most importantly, we have built a quiet, polished, and professional environment where growing teams can focus, collaborate, and perform at their best.

By being clear about who we are for, we can deliver an experience that matches what our members need - without compromise.

If your company values a workspace that works as hard as you do, we would love to show you what we have created at collective_100.
